Roddick and Federer battle for Wimbledon title.
Surprise Wimbledon finalist Andy Roddick will try his hand at Roger Federer for the 21st time.Any Roddick does not have the best record against Roger Federer. In fact, some might call it downright dismal. The Swiss maestro has defeated Roddick 18 of the 20 times they've played. The American's most recent win came last year in Miami, where he beat Federer in three sets. The Swiss man has since returned the favor, beating Roddick in 3 sets a year later. This Wimbledon final will be the third for the two men. Federer defeated Roddick in two tightly contested finals in 2003 and 2004. The American acquitted himself well in each, but Federer was just too strong in the end.
Roddick's game does not match up well against Federer's. Aside from the obvious psychological advantage of having beaten him 18 times, Federer has a powerful weapon which he employs against Roddick - his return game.As in 2008, the lasting impression of the event will be that of the men's final. A year on from losing what was widely regarded as the best ever tennis match against Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer triumphed in what would be the longest ever Grand Slam final in terms of games played, winning a 77-game encounter over Andy Roddick to grab a record 15th Grand Slam title, and return to the top of the world rankings.Federer admitted to being "staggered" by his Grand Slam success, saying, "I never expected I could be the player I am now. I never thought I could be this consistent." Commenting on the match, he said, "It was a crazy match with an unbelievable end. My head's still spinning, but it's an unbelievable moment in my career."
